estimating wool quantity requirements

one yard of wool (usually 58-60" wide and 36" long)
is approx. 14.5 sq. feet of cloth, which hooks
using 3 times as much cloth as the surface area hooked: hooks 4.8 square feet
using 4 times as much cloth as the surface area hooked: hooks 3.62 square feet
using 5 times as much cloth as the surface area hooked: hooks 2.9 square feet

one fat quarter of wool (29" w x 18" long)
is approx. 3.62 sq. feet of cloth, which hooks
using 3 times as much cloth as the surface area hooked: hooks 1.2 square feet
using 4 times as much cloth as the surface area hooked: hooks .9 square feet
using 5 times as much cloth as the surface area hooked: hooks .72 square feet
