site: Woodsboro town park, NE corner jct. Rt. 194 and 550 in Woodsboro Maryland

size: 35' x 66'

The project required about 20 hours of work (Mary's parents Ambrose and Katherine Klotz, assisted), Spraying the approximately 5 gallons of turf paint required more than 2.5 miles of walking. Project was installed Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, 2001 and repainted Oct. 20-23. It is intended to be seen from the air (the Camp David helicopters fly over, and a commercial airliner tipped its wing at us as we installed it!). I'm not generally much of a flag waver, but the events of 9/11/2001 have inspired us all to be especially appreciative of living in a country run by its people, and where diversity and indivuality are supported and celebrated. Waving this flag applauds all the different drummers to which we dance. The Woodsboro American Legion has offered to cover the cost of keeping it painted.

Mary has donated her services designing corn mazes for the Johnstown PA Keystone Chapter of the Red Cross as fund raisers for the last 3 years. She also designs labyrinths, and has painted an original labyrinth on the back parking lot of the studio. Her labyrinth work was featured at the Sumner School Museum (Washington DC) last fall, where her pieces included beadwork, fused glass, and triaxial weaving. One of Mary's original labyrinth design has been chosen to be installed at a retreat center outside Kansas City (www.campgaea.org click on labyrinth project button near bottom of page)
